First Day of Spring

(This was originally posted on my mblog weblog.)

Purpose Statement: A place to record my thoughts, musings, rants, and opinions ... no matter how boring, insignificant, or mundane they may be.

I really don't know what all I have planned for this weblog, what direction it might take, or even if I'll post to it regularly ... but I'd really like to start keeping a journal and since I can type faster than I write ... this seems ideal for me. Plus, I can share this weblog with friends and family, not only to make them feel like their lives are a hell of a lot more exciting, but also so they can keep up with what I'm doing ... or not doing as the case may be.

I'm wondering, however, if I should keep two weblogs ... one for essays pertaining to this weblog's title/theme and a personal one to record all the boring day-to-day events in my humdrum life. Hmm ... keeping two sounds like a lot of work and I'll be lucky to keep up one ... so I guess I shall use one to record all my deep thoughts, opinionated opinions, and ho-hum life.

Not only will it be easier for moi, but it will give any readers enough variety so that they won't go out of their minds. I think that if someone had to read either just about my dull life or just my tedious ramblings without any diversity ... I'm picturing that scene from the movie "Scanners" or that scene near the end of "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark" where the guy's face melts! On the plus side, they might name a mental disorder after me.

See how easily distracted I am? I was going along writing my lil' heart out a few hours ago and then got caught up watching Chappelle's Show. I LOVE that show!!! It never fails to make me laugh. I think it'd be so fun to work on that show. -hint- If you ever read this Dave, I'm available.

I'm really glad that Dave is finally getting the recognition that he deserves. Even though I only remember him in "Half Baked" and "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" ... his performance in those two movies (especially the latter) and his stand-up comedy act always cracked me up.

I know he was in "You've Got Mail," but I haven't seen it yet. I was waiting to watch it with someone, but doesn't look like that'll ever happen.

My favorite skits tonight were actually from last week's episode and they were "When 'Keeping It Real' Goes Wrong" and "I Know Black People". They were so damn funny!!! I'm thinking about buying his first season on DVD since I missed most of it.

Anyway, today was the first day of Spring, I think ... it snowed! The good news is that the days are getting longer and it won't be too long when it'll start getting dark around 9 p.m. I am so looking forward to it even though it means that after the longest day ... they'll start getting shorter again. =(

I wonder when we set our clocks forward an hour. Is that in April? I always forget. I know it's "Spring ahead" and "Fall behind", but I think the months are April and October. It seems like we're always setting clocks back right before Halloween.

I woke up late afternoon yet again and then was surprised with a visit from Dad and Zachary. For those that don't know, Dad is my Grandpa and Zachary is my 9 year old nephew. I know, everyone thinks it's weird that no one in my family refers to our grandparents as "Grandma" and "Grandpa", but instead as "Mom" and "Dad". Everyone thinks it'd be confusing, especially when the whole family is together and someone yells out for their mom or dad, but honestly it's not. Some how, it's like the person knows it's them, maybe through some form of unspoken communication.

It's kind of like how a mother bat can tell which bats are hers by their sound, even though they are on a cave wall with millions of other bats.

Anyway, I've often wondered though how it came about and I think that me and my sisters and our cousins heard our parents call our Grandparents "Mom" and "Dad," so that's just what we called them. I can't speak for the rest of my generation, but I think for the longest time growing up I thought that that was actually their names. -grin-

After burning Zach a CD (and even making a cool cover), we all went to Casa Fiesta to get somethin' to eat. I got the Nachos Fajitas (chicken) again. That reminds me, I wanted to download some more free songs from iTunes ... courtesy of Sierra Mist and Pepsi.

I downloaded iTunes a few days ago and used my 4 bottle caps to download:

Are You Gonna Be My Girl - Jet
I Believe In A Thing Called Love - The Darkness
Seven Nation Army - The White Stripes
Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve (for my Mommy)

I really love that video by The Darkness because it reminds me so much of cheesy music videos from when I was a kid ... back before MTV (or at least before our town added it to their channel line-up) when I had to sit up on Friday night (or was it Saturday) and watch Night Tracks on TBS.

I remember having a friend spend the night, usually Amy, and my Mom would get us (Me, my sisters, and friends) all kinds of snacks to eat and rent movies for us and we'd all sit up and watch movies and Night Tracks. She's the best Mom!!!!!

That reminds me that I have a CD to burn for her. She's asked me for the last 6 months and I still haven't ... mostly because I kept telling her she needed to give me a list. She just gave it to me the other day.

I'm looking at it right now and it's weird! She has songs listed from No Doubt, Green Day, Shakira, Godsmack, Evanescence, Drowning Pool, Eminem, and of course the song I just downloaded for her.

My Mom likes Eminem! How messed up is that? You think you're doing a good job of raising your parents and find out that no matter how hard you try ... it's never enough. =p

I should burn that for her before going to bed, but I'm so tired. I probably will since she's asked me every day whether I have yet or not.

I have to remember to go buy "The Punisher" soundtrack. It has that song by Seether, "Broken," featuring Amy Lee (my fantasy wife). It also has that kick ass song, "Step Up," by Drowning Pool. I'd really like to hear those right now though. Maybe I should see if I can download them from iTunes using my free downloads. I think I have 4 or 5 more that I can download for free. I was thinking of downloading that new single from Maroon 5 called, "This Love."

I just checked and "Punisher: The Album" isn't released until March 23. I'll go to Best Buy on Tuesday and use my Reward Zone certificates to get it. I've accumulated $200 in Reward Zone gift certificates so far this year. Not bad. I was going to buy a new DVD-RW drive, but they don't yet have the one I want.

The last CD I bought was Incubus' "A Crow Left of the Murder," several weeks ago. My favorite song on the album is of course, "Megalomaniac".

Well, I guess this is enough for my first journal entry. Actually, it's probably too much! What's worse is that if I wasn't already sleepy and wanting to burn that CD before going to bed ... it'd be longer!!! God, I am long-winded!

Hopefully I can do as good of a job with my future posts. -crossing fingers-

I'm outta here .....
